Ty Rex (born Tyler Rex Linahan) is a pianist and interdisciplinary artist whose practice moves between improvisation, somatic inquiry, and communal listening. Over two decades of performance, they have developed a body of work that treats music as a practice ground—a space where listening, presence, and creative risk become forms of care.
Their performance series Open House, co-founded with BioSoul Studios and inspired by the devotional legacy of Alice Coltrane, has gathered artists and communities across Los Angeles and Europe. Rooted in deep-listening, meditation, and collaborative improvisation, Open House operates simultaneously as artistic practice and collective healing.
Their professional background spans music, media, and public arts. As a public arts director, they led the commissioning and execution of large-scale murals and community events, partnering with city government and nonprofit organizations to shape cultural development in public space. They have also worked in film and television scoring across major studio and broadcast productions, directed large-scale podcast production in spirituality, health, and wellbeing, and spent nearly two decades accompanying choral ensembles, worship communities, and dance companies as a collaborative pianist.
Ty Rex maintains a private therapeutic practice with musicians, artists, and creative professionals, integrating improvisation and expressive arts through trauma-informed and somatic frameworks. Their facilitation draws on long-term mentorships within lineage-based contemplative and indigenous traditions.
